Sports at St. Pat’s High School
Sport is equally important factor in educational institutions of repute. The government and private departments strive to promote sports in our country. They select talented young players from schools, colleges and universities and thereafter, these outstanding players are given further training and the best are selected to represent our country in international tournaments.
Schools such as St. Patrick’s are fortunate to have grounds and other playing facilities for their students. We have a full sized football/cricket ground, a well-known hockey field, a standard sized basketball cum tennis court and a multi-purpose auditorium where badminton, table tennis and other indoor games are played. The two open-air courts are also used by the A’-Level girls for throwball, netball and volleyball.
Every year during the summer-vacation months of June and July free training and coaching facilities are provided to our students. Coaching camps are held for cricket, football, basketball, badminton and table-tennis . At the conclusion of these camps the school’s ‘A’ teams are selected from among the attendees. Those who do not make it to the playing eleven, strive for their places by improving their performances.
The Annual Athletic Meet of the school is a great and colourful spectacle – from the tiny tots of the primary section to the building performers in the middle section, and from the senior stars to the exceptionally talented, this once-in-a-year gala is the true test of the fittest, fastest and strongest in the school. Our athletes produce very good results and if groomed properly after they leave school, they can bring laurels for the country.
St. Patrick’s High School has been very fortunate to have had sports loving principals who have supported the sports staff and supplied the teams with whatever equipment was needed. The success of a sporting calendar in the school depends a lot on the coordination between teachers, the course of studies and the sports masters’ plans.
Our school participates in most of the sports competitions organized by the Directorate of Schools, Karachi, Board of Secondary Education or any other private institutions, provided these activities don’t clash with the examination schedules.
St. Pat’s teams have won many trophies in cricket, hockey, basketball, badminton, table tennis and athletics, and our star players and athletes have progressed further to represent the city at district and national levels, and some have also donned Pakistan colours such as Milton D’mello, Wallace Mathias, Waseem Bari, Danish Kaneria, Faisal Iqbal, Shahzaib Hassan, Mohammad Anis, Mohammad Asim just to name a few.
